Tara Johns is a Sydney-based painter and photographer whose work boldly projects the natural into the urban landscape.

Beginning her career as a photojournalist for News Ltd publications in Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City, Tara later studied Visual Art at Curtin University and completed a Graduate Diploma of Visual Art Education at ACU. Her transition from commercial photography to fine art, combined with her experience in Sydney's diverse and industrial inner west, deeply informs her creative practice.

Drawing from a heightened sensory perception shaped by her personal journey through illness, Tara's work focuses on light, colour, and texture. She creates large, layered compositions that build depth and dimension, blending and distorting shape to reveal our environment in fresh and unexpected ways.

Her practice is influenced by Henri Lefebvre's rhythmanalysis - exploring the rhythms of everyday life and our movements through space - as well as James Turrell's investigations into human perception and the Light and Space movement.

Tara's work has been exhibited in Sydney and Melbourne, including as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival, and she was a finalist in the Art and About Australian Life exhibition.
